How To Find The Perfect Photographer For My Wedding Day
Updated: Nov 22, 2020
Planning the perfect wedding day can be stressful experience-from booking your venue, DJ, caterers, and more!
But what about finding the right photographer ?
Finding the right wedding photographer can be overwhelming, especially when trying to balance quality and style with cost. Later in the section I will discuss a few tips on this.
Remember there are so many amazing wedding photographers out there today, so there's no right or wrong decision. However, it’s important to start looking for the styles you like and to know what questions to ask when speaking to a photography team.
If you don't know what questions to ask, don’t worry. I have you covered.
Below are some questions I recommend asking:
Questions to ask when meeting your potential photographer
1. Are you available on my wedding day? How far do I need to book in advance?
2. Do you have a Deposit fee? If so, how much?
3. What types of packages do you have available?
4. What package do you recommend for your clients?
5. Do locations cost extra? Are they included in your packages?
6. Do you have second photographers if needed?
7. Do you have any current specials?
Asking questions like these will ensure your expectations are met. Additionally, the wedding planning company called "The Knot" has an article published called " Important Questions to Ask Wedding Photographers Before You Book" By Amy Levin-Epstein. The article gives you additional questions to ask your potential photography team. Check out their website here: https://www.theknot.com/content/amphtml/questions-to-ask-wedding-photographer

A few tips on choosing the perfect photographer
We at Tolman Media have a selection process on choosing the best photographers & videographers for our clients. This process is to ensure that we build trust with our clients, and make sure we do great work before having them on the team.
Choosing the ideal photographer can be a working process but hopefully these tips that I recommend will stir you in the right direction.
Choosing the ideal photographer team can be a challenging process so I am including some of my personal key tips to stir you in the right direction.
Experience is critical! One of the things to be mindful in choosing your ideal photographer is do they have a portfolio and does their portfolio include shooting weddings? How many years of experience do they have? At the end of the day you want a photographer who knows their craft and has had some experience shooting a wedding.
Cost is always the golden question. Does this photographer fit our budget? Going back to one of the questions, I recommend asking your photographer " What kind of packages do you have available?" and " What packages do you recommend?" Be mindful that high end prices don't always guarantee high quality photos, and the same with low quality photos to low prices.
Look for a company or photographer who are upfront and honest about their prices, and in return be clear on your budget.
Once you have decided on a company or photographer to shoot your wedding it’s important to get to know them. The more open and sincere you are with them, the more they will be with you. It’s important to feel comfortable with your team before the wedding day so start getting to know them months before the big day!
4. Quality/ Style
No different from experience, a portfolio is a must-see before giving them the final yes. The portfolio should capture your eyes and attention. Looking at their portfolio, like ours here https://www.instagram.com/tolman.media/, you will be able to see the different styles showcased. It's a plus if they are familiar with your wedding venue. A great photography team is adaptive to many different styles of photography, capturing the personalities of the bride and groom, and making your wedding day a seamless experience.
